Botswana Diamonds (BOD) signed a JV with Brightstone (a private South African company) on a much sought after parcel of land in the Gope area.  In February 2015 with Siseko which holds 13 licences in the Gope area located to the southwest of the Orapa region of Botswana. This region contains the Ghaghoo Diamond mine being developed by Gem Diamonds Limited and the X-36 diamond discovery made by Petra Diamonds Limited, as well as 21 known kimberlites. The licence area covers a total of 6,518.40 sq km.

Following the signing of the agreement BOD applied its extensive geophysical and geochemical database to the area and has identified new targets.

A farm-out agreement has been entered into with a large Botswana based mining company.  They have taken over operatorship of the block.  Using data supplied by BOD and other sources they have identified 56 targets on the block.  A 9 hole drilling programme on licence PL186 commences in May.

BOD has a 15% free carry through to feasibility study.

In addition to the Brightstone JV, BOD recently acquired 3 new Prospecting Licences in the Gope Region.  These PLs (PL135, PL136 and PL137/2015) will be worked under the Alrosa JV.  The licence areas cover 46 sq km, 48 sq km and 3.3 sq km respectively.

The licences PL135/2015 and PL136/2015 were selected specifically to verify previously identified geophysical anomalies (both magnetic and gravity).

PL137/2015 contains mineralogical anomalies with kimberlite indicator minerals, namely pyropes, ilmenites and in particular chrome diopsides.  Chrome diopsides (garnets) are relatively soft and do not travel far from the kimberlite source and it is, therefore, considered worthwhile to conduct follow-up exploration of these indicators on this small licence area.

The Alrosa and Botswana Diamonds geoscientists will focus immediately on the target areas using small grids to carry out detailed geophysics and to acquire mineral chemistry data with the aim of making rapid decisions regarding potential drilling.

PLs 135/136/137/2015 Awarded in April 2015
